Hello, my pretties! ♥

It's a new year & I'm bringing you a new palette review!

As 2015 was tapering off, Urban Decay released its 1st ever celebrity-collaboration palette with no other than the always fabulous Gwen Stefani. I didn't get it right away because I put myself on a serious 'no-buy' at the end of the year. I'm gonna be completely honest: With the move + Christmas, we were broke. Yet I was slightly sad this beauty wasn't in my collection. Well, leave it to my brother to spoil me over the holidays with a Sephora $50 gift card (thank you, brother!) so I could get this cutie. First thing I did right after getting the gift card? Swatch that sucker in-store & hug the first one I could get my hands on! So if you're still interested in getting the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette but aren't sure whether you should buy it or not, here I have this review & swatches to help you make that decision. Ready? Let's do this!

The #UDxGwen Eyeshadow Palette is limited edition and retails at Sephora or on the Urban Decay website for $58. Gwen Stefani was involved in the entire development of the palette and designed every single detail -- from the colors to the packaging to the eyeshadows that were to be included in it.

The palette also comes with a small sample of 4 new lipsticks that just released this week. I will be doing swatches and a mini review of these samples for you to check out. Stay tuned!

The design is very much inspired by Gwen's love for black & white graphic prints and antique gold accents. I love that the graphics are so bold and unique, especially because there is nothing out in the market quite like this. It's very eye-catching and truly represents Gwen's aesthetic.

The case is very nice & sturdy. I like that it has some weight to it and does not feel cheap or poorly made. Also, it includes a generously-sized mirror that has the words "Magic's In The Makeup" etched on the bottom right corner -- a nod to No Doubt's song with the same name from their Return Of Saturn album.

The #UDxGwen Eyeshadow Palette comes with 15 shades: 12 new colors and 3 repromotes that are part of Urban Decay's permanent collection. Gwen named every single one of the new shades included in this palette, which are based on her songs. What is beyond amazing is that there are 5 matte eyeshadows in this palette. Something that is completely unheard of from an Urban Decay palette! They typically include 1 or 2 matte shades along with a wide range of shimmers and glitter shadows; however, this time 1/3 of the palette is matte. I love it! ♥

The eyeshadow colors included in the #UDxGwen Eyeshadow Palette are not totally outrageous. This is a neutral palette that features a few pops of color. The colors are shades that Gwen typically wears on her own looks as she tends to favor a more minimalistic eye and bright lips. The pops of color in the palette are not super crazy, but are definitely fun colors to play with. I like that these bright colors don't scare the neutral eyeshadow wearer either. I enjoy the assortment of colors in the palette and think it's great to create natural eye looks with definite potential for more dramatic or fun looks.

This palette is best for people who have fair, light and light-medium skin tones. There is very little difference in the spectrum of some of these eyeshadows. The gradient is too close in range and makes it more difficult for someone with darker skin color to wear. It does make sense that this palette is catered toward lighter skin tones considering that Gwen is quite fair. Despite the lack of difference between eyeshadow colors on the top left section of the palette, all the colors are buildable, blendable and quite pigmented. Also, depending on your undertone, I've noticed the eyeshadows do look different from person to person. Eyeshadows that look more neutral on me can look more cool or warm on others.

As far as the formula, each finish has its pros and cons: Mattes are quite pigmented, silky and smooth but can be a bit powdery. Shimmers are quite nice but (surprisingly) are not as pigmented as the rest of the eyeshadows. Pearls and Metals are pigmented but blend away too easily. Lastly, the one glitter eyeshadow (something UD is famous for) needs a sticky base in order to perform as it's supposed to; otherwise, you will end up with a glittery mess all over your face, except where you need it. Regardless of the eyeshadow finish you use, I recommend you use your favorite primer to make sure all the eyeshadows appear as vividly on your skin as they do in the pan.

Now, let's move onto the swatches so you can see all the colors in the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette in all their glory. Please, keep in mind all the swatches were done without a primer or sticky base underneath.

While other bloggers say they would have preferred to see a palette that was more inspired by Gwen's body of work rather than her preferred makeup look, I don't mind it at all. I understand other people want to see a much more colorful palette; however, I feel it wouldn't get used nearly as much as this palette does. Also, besides the great range of neutrals, the pops of color are not overly outside of my comfort zone and will push me to try some color without becoming overwhelming. They are still wearable without losing their fun potential.

I personally like the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette as it was designed because these are truly colors I enjoy wearing on a constant basis + I have all the finishes and colors I could possibly need in one spot. It's a definite win in my book and I'm glad I invested on it!

I hope this review is useful to you guys and that it helps you make a decision on whether you should buy this palette for your collection. I also hope you are having a fantastic 2016 so far! I send you all tons of love & light! ♥

Until next time...
