Bridal Beauty & Style with Lover.ly ♥

Hello, my pretties! ♥

Bridal style involves uniqueness & individualism. It can be classic & romantic or quirky & off-the-wall. There's no right or wrong way of doing it. All you have to do is trust your gut-feeling, go with what suits your personality and how you want to remember one of the most important days of your life. Lover.ly is a great website where you can spend endless hours getting wedding inspiration not only for gorgeous gowns, but for anything wedding-related. At the end of your wedding day, the most special thing is always that you have officially married the love of your life! ♥ Of course, a pretty dress that makes you look fabulous always helps make the day extra special.

I still dream of my wedding day. AndrΓ©s & I are very non-traditional and did things backwards (...that's a whooole other blog post LOL). But that doesn't stop this girl from dreaming of that special day when my 2 boys will walk me down the aisle to marry their father. We talk about it a lot and I know it will happen soon. I want to make sure I look extra fashionable that day!

In this blog post, I want to showcase 3 different makeup looks inspired by 3 beautiful dresses I found in the Lover.ly website. I had so much fun spending endless hours looking at gorgeous wedding gowns and deciding what looks I would wear with each one of them. The dresses I have chosen lean more on the non-traditional and range just below the $500 mark. A wedding gown can be inexpensive, fun, unconventional and modern without losing elegance & sophistication.

If you're interested in finding out what kind of makeup I chose for each wedding dress from Lover.ly, just keep reading... ☺

by BHLDN
($480)

"With intricate lace and a polished, half-sleeve silhouette, this flared dress was handcrafted in NYC by Leanne Marshall. Perfect for a memorable night (or day) of dancing, the knee-skimming skirt puts your shoes in the spotlight."

I love this dress for a daytime wedding or for a bride who doesn't want to be fussing around with a long gown. I love how playful yet vintage it looks. It makes me think how this dress could be a beautiful heirloom to pass from one generation to the next.

On Claudia, I wanted a very fresh makeup that would make her look young and flirty. I wanted there to be a strong contrast between her youthful pretty face and the very traditional lace. To make her stand out, I kept the entire makeup very monochromatic by adding soft peachy-pinks all throughout her face. What this does is creates a flush of all-over color that makes her blonde hair and big, expressive blue eyes really stand out.

I achieved her eye look by using a mixture of Too Faced Chocolate Bar Salted Caramel & LORAC Pro Mauve on the crease and Too Faced Chocolate Bar Champagne & Marzipan + LORAC Pro Nude, Champagne & Pewter on the lids. For the cheeks, I used a mixture of Sacha Cosmetics blushes in Barely Plum, Color Me Coral & Rose Glow. On the lips, I used a mixture of J.Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint in Mimsy + Sacha Cosmetics Summer Peach & Bubble Gum lipgloss with a bit of Rosebud Salve for extra shine.

* AVANT-GARDE *

by White by Vera Wang
($449.99)

"This elegant strapless draped lace column gown defines ethereal beauty. Beautiful Chantilly lace is draped at opposing angles for an amazingly flattering design, and underneath it all is a sensual double layer of charmeuse lining. A simply chic look easily changed to modern, romantic, or glamorous by adding a White by Vera Wang horsehair, floral, or crystal sash."

Now, I know a black wedding gown is very non-traditional and not for everyone, but the beautiful lace and flower waist detail make it look romantic and timeless. If the black color doesn't suit your style, this is definitely a versatile dress that would also look stunning in white (similar choices HERE and HERE).

On Christian, I kept things very smokey and strong on the eye area but avoided using black to not make it harsh. Instead, I stuck with a wash of purple eyeshadow and very strong definition on the outer corner to lift her eyes and avoid droopiness. I kept her skin neutral and her lips really natural. I didn't add any blush because I wanted to keep the statement primarily on her bone structure and the dress. She has beautiful high cheekbones and I really wanted to emphasize that. Instead of blush, I gave her skin a beautiful healthy and radiant glow that even J.Lo would approve of!

I achieved her look by using a mixture of LORAC Pro Deep Purple & Too Faced Candied Violet eyeshadows on the eyelids, Temptu Pro Champagne Shimmer on the cheeks and forehead (concentrating primarily on the cheekbones & above the brow arches), well-defined contouring of the face with airbrush foundation about 4 times darker than her skintone, and neutral but glowy lips by using a clear gloss with LORAC Pro Gold eyeshadow.

* CONTEMPORARY *

by The Dessy Group
($490)

"Sleeveless modern lace dress with wide matching satin sash. Flared skirt has sweep train."

This gown is definitely more structured and architectural than the previous two. The laser-cut lace gives it a very modern and up-to-date look yet the stylish cut keeps the dress very classic.

For Desiree, I wanted a much more sophisticated and defined look to go with her gown. The main emphasis was on her eyes. She has gorgeously huge almond-shaped eyes that needed to be showcased. I opted for a very defined cut-crease with an accentuated cat-eyeliner and tons of lashes. I kept things super simple on the lower part of the eyes by only adding a cream color pencil on her waterline & a couple coats of mascara on her lower lashes. Since there was so much going on with the eyes, I kept the contouring to a minimum. I only added a bit of highlight to the face to give it a bit of dimension. Her lips were darkened with a shiny mulberry color that didn't clash with the eyes and only enough blush to make her cheeks visible.

To achieve this look, I used LORAC Pro Black to cut her crease and used Sable & Espresso to blend it up. Added just a touch of Taupe to create a difussed gradient. For the lids, I used a combination of LORAC Pro Gold & Urban Decay Naked2 Half Baked to give them a very strong gold-tone that would highly contrast with her crease. On her cheeks, I used a combination of Orange Flame & Burnt Orange blushes from Sacha Cosmetics. Her lips were filled in with Italia Mahogany lip pencil, then Maybelline Divine Wine lipstick was added for some creaminess and finally, topped with Sacha Cosmetics Summer Cognac lipgloss.

I hope this blog post gave you some great ideas for your wedding day and that you enjoyed reading it as much as we thoroughly enjoyed working on it.

Until next time...

30-Minute Makeup {FOTD}

Hello, my pretties!

I can't tell you how many times I've heard women say "Oh, I just don't have time to put makeup on..." Well, you know what I say to that? BULLSH*T! Yup, I said it. Anyone can go from drab to fab in exactly 30 minutes!

If you have read my About section here on the blog, you know I am mom to 2 delicious toddler boys. They are constantly tugging at me or pulling my fingers to take me somewhere for some reason. Their needs, of course, always come first and are taken care of before any makeup application. Once they're settled, my cellphone timer gets set for exactly 30 mins to do makeup, a simple hairdo, and throw on whatever clothes I am going to wear.

Don't get me wrong. Sometimes, I don't even have 30 minutes and I'll look like this instead. And when I do have those 30 minutes, there are constant interruptions and I have to stop whatever I am doing; however, there's a goal to achieve and I try my best to do it. It doesn't always happen perfectly but, over time, I have gotten a lot faster at taking care of my makeup business in 30 minutes.

Bare face before & polished face 30 mins after

My whole point is: Take time for YOU to try to look presentable and polished. You will feel 100% better about yourself and your husband/boyfriend/partner will appreciate the effort you have put into putting yourself together and will feel proud to show you off and stand by your side. Now, your partner should feel proud of you regardless of whether you're wearing makeup or not. If he (or she) doesn't, it's time to throw his (or her) a$$ out to the curb! #JustSayin' You should be loved for you, not your makeup application skills anyway...

Learn what looks best on you and what you like to emphasize the most out of your face. Practice makes perfect and over time you will get faster at applying makeup on. One quick tip: Make sure you have all  your makeup, tools & clothing ready, so you don't have to waste precious time looking for stuff #AintNobodyGotTimeForThat!

Perfect Palette Tag!

Hello, my pretties! ♥

This is a tag that has been going around in the makeup world. I have been thinking of doing it for a while, but it wasn't until now that I had a chance to really sit down and do it. October tends to be a pretty busy month for us and this year is no exception. Even with that, I still found time to fully compare these palettes up against each other and give you guys an idea of what I think about them. I have already done reviews on some of them, but my opinions may have changed over time as I have used them more. I took into consideration every possible aspect - pigmentation, color selection, formula, versatility, and range of mattes vs. shimmers. Which is the perfect palette? Let's find out! ☺

Burgundy Smokey Eye Makeup Look for Fall {FOTD}

Hello, my pretties! ♥

It seems like forever since the last time I posted a FOTD. The reality is that I haven't really gotten too much time to wear a full face of makeup in the past couple months. We have been so busy! This, of course, explains the excess reviews in the past few weeks too... But it's time to spice things up a bit again! A lot of you wanted a product breakdown of this look when I posted it on my Instagram. It's the perfect balance of color and smokeyness (is that a word?) for the fall season. So here you have it: A Burgundy Smokey Eye Makeup Look. Enjoy! ☺

BASE

• Dermadeli Invigorating Vitamin C Serum all over my face & neck.
• Perlier Honey Royal Gold Elixir all over my face & neck too.
• NYX Cosmetics Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Face Primer. Applied onto the areas where I get oily the most + wherever I have any acne scarring.
• Benefit Cosmetics Some Kind-a Gorgeous Cream to Powder Foundation. Applied with my Beauty Blender all over the areas where I applied my face primer. I did 2 coats because this is a very light foundation, but it's totally buildable for light-medium/medium coverage that still looks like your skin.
